Geomagnetic storms are a common natural phenomenon. They arise due to solar activity. The flow of charged particles from the Sun reaches the Earth’s magnetosphere and causes disturbances.

January 2025 promises to be relatively calm in terms of geomagnetic activity. Most days will be characterized by low levels of disturbance. However, moderate magnetic storms are expected due to the influence of high-speed solar wind streams from coronal holes.

According to the forecast of the Space Weather Prediction Center, the New Year 2025 begins with a powerful geomagnetic storm. Most people may feel tired and sleepy from December 31 to January 1.

The first half of the month (January 1-15)

Low activity: most days during this period are characterized by a calm geomagnetic environment. Moderate disturbances are possible only on January 5 and 10. Weak magnetic storms are expected on January 6, 11 and 12.

The second half of the month (January 16-31)

A period of lull: from January 16, geomagnetic activity will be stable again. Magnetic storms: a weak magnetic storm is possible on January 16-18. The rest of the days will be calm.

Geomagnetic storms in January 2025 — impact on health

Why do geomagnetic storms affect us so much? We can subconsciously feel changes in the Earth’s magnetic field. It affects the cardiovascular system, the heart, and the nervous system.

Typical symptoms:

  • headaches, migraines;
  • increased or fluctuating blood pressure;
  • sleep problems – insomnia or drowsiness;
  • poor concentration;
  • irritability and mood swings.

Geomagnetic disturbances are especially dangerous for people with chronic diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It is better to monitor your health and not overload yourself with work or physical exertion.

How to prepare for geomagnetic storms in January 2025

Geomagnetic storms cannot be stopped or avoided, but their effects on the body can be minimized. Here are some simple tips to help you feel better these days:

  • Drink plenty of water. Dehydration increases headache and fatigue. Clean water helps the body better adapt to changes.
  • Watch your diet. On such days, it is better to eat light food – vegetables, fruits, cereals, fish. Avoid fatty, fried, heavy food that overloads the body.
  • Rest properly. Sleep is the best way to recharge your energy. Try to sleep at least 7-8 hours a day. If you feel tired during the day, allow yourself a little rest.
  • Reduce stress. Practice meditation, breathing exercises or just take a walk in the fresh air.
  • Control physical activity. Avoid intensive training on these days. Choose light walks, yoga or stretching.
  • Monitor blood pressure. If you suffer from hypertension or hypotension, it is important to monitor your blood pressure regularly. If necessary, take the prescribed medication.
  • Limit the use of gadgets. Long hours in front of a computer or phone screen increase headache and fatigue. Take breaks and spend more time without gadgets.
