“Lubinets calls on the Council to increase the fines for selling alcohol and tobacco to minors by more than 7 times. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets suggests increasing responsibility for selling alcohol and tobacco to children. Fines can increase to 3,000-15,000 tax-free minimums.”, — write on: unn.ua
Addressed the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy with an initiative to strengthen responsibility for the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to children
As Lubinets pointed out, from January 1 to October 30, 2024, law enforcement officers drew up 2,655 administrative protocols for the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to minors. This may indicate insufficient restrictions and the level of responsibility of sellers in this area, the ombudsman believes.
He reminded that for this the seller can be fined 400-800 tax-free minimums, which is 6,800-13,600 hryvnias.
The current fines are disproportionate to the harm that the sale of these products can cause to children’s health. I would like to emphasize that any desire to make money from children and damage to their health requires due responsibility
Therefore, the ombudsman proposes to amend the legislation on the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, setting fines from 3,000 to 15,000 tax-free minimums for the sale of the specified goods to children.
