More than 56,000 runners are expected to take part in a marathon, which is scheduled for April 27.
This will exceed the current record in 55,646 participants set by the New York Marathon in November last year.
Since the first London marathon in 1981, more than 1.3 million runners have completed the event.
“The 45th marathon is a landmark for us, and it would be great to celebrate this by becoming the largest marathon that has ever been held anywhere in the world,” said Gud Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events.
In London Marathon this year will compete Olympic champion of Paris Tamirate Tola, the current champion of London Alexander Mutiso, the world record holder in the half marathon Jacob Kiplimo and the 11-time champion of the world marathon Eliod Kipchoge.
Ruth Chepngetich, Olympic Champion Sifan Hassan and the silver medalist of Tigst Assef confirmed that they will also take part in the women’s race.
