One of the most famous critics of Donald Trump, former member of the House of Representatives Liz Cheney reacted to the victory of the Republican in the US presidential elections.
On her X page, she emphasized that the elections were democratic.
“Our country’s democratic system was functioning last night, and we have a new president-elect. All Americans have an obligation, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our election,” Cheney said in a post on X.

She also added that the Americans now have “special responsibility” after the presidential election.
“We now have a special responsibility as citizens of the greatest nation on earth to do everything we can to uphold and protect our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions endure these four years. Citizens across the country, our courts, members of the press and those who work in our federal, state and local governments must now become defenders of democracy,” she continued.
Cheney campaigned alongside Kamala Harris, urging Republicans to forget partisan divides, support a Democrat and reject a candidate who “constitutes a threat to democracy”.
On Thursday, October 31, at the end of the campaign, Trump lashed out at Cheney, saying she should be put on the battlefield “where she’s going to be shot at with nine barrels.”
“She is a radical war hawk. Let’s put her in there with a rifle standing there and nine barrels shooting at her, okay? Let’s see how she reacts to this. You know when guns are pointed in her face,” he said.

Donald Trump announced his election victory in a speech to supporters in Florida. Foreign leaders, in particular, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, congratulated the Republican on his victory.

Harris’ headquarters warned that it could take several days to determine the result. Harris will not address supporters on November 6.
The AP agency’s own calculation, which is considered the most reliable platform for evaluating the winner of the election, confirmed that Donald Trump, winning in Wisconsin, won the 2024 US presidential election overall, securing the necessary 270 Electoral College votes.
