Thus, on September 24, the Seimas in the first reading approved the relevant amendments to the law on state and official secrets. They were supported by 114 members of the Seimas.

There is one more vote left before the project is approved.

As Minister of Defense Laurinas Kaščiūnas stated, the amendments propose to establish restrictions for employees of secret structures to travel to foreign countries or territories where their presence may endanger the national security of Lithuania.

Prohibited countries will be determined by the government, taking into account threats to national security. According to the Ministry of Defense, it should include the same countries to which entry is already prohibited by the military and officials: Russia, Belarus and China.

According to the calculations of the Ministry of Defense, the ban will affect 56,000 people who have the right to work with classified information.

It is assumed that if they violate the ban, they will lose the right to work with classified information.
