The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia has prepared amendments to the law on national security, which prohibit citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus from holding positions in critical infrastructure management structures and critical infrastructure that is particularly significant on a European scale.
Critical infrastructure are objects, systems or their parts located in Latvia, which are essential for the implementation of important public functions, as well as health protection, guaranteeing safety, economic or social well-being of people.
“In order to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure important for the security of the Latvian state and society, the amendments provide that the owner of critical infrastructure, the real beneficiary or the legal owner must be loyal to Latvia and its Constitution, while it is forbidden to provide support, in particular information, to persons or states, which threaten the territorial indivisibility, sovereignty and independence or the constitutional system of democratic states”, – it is stated in messages
In addition, the amendments provide that Russia or Belarus, its citizens or legal entities registered in these countries cannot become the owner, manager or ultimate beneficiary of critical infrastructure or infrastructure of particular importance on a European scale.

The amendments provide that citizens of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus will be able to perform work in critical infrastructure or European critical infrastructure only as an exception on the basis of a separate permit from the state security body.
