“Kyivstar” begins testing the Starlink satellite communication

Dmitry Dzhugalik Author of news on Mezha.media. I write about what I actively admire, namely technology, games and cinema.

Kyivstar CEO Alexander Komarov and digital transformation Minister Mikhail Fedorov exchanged the first reports through Starlink Direct to Cell technology, starting a satellite communication test in Ukraine.

The first test of technology took place in the Zhytomyr region. Data transmission function is still being developing, which will open websites and send multimedia messages. It will be accessible to more users as you improve the bandwidth after launching new satellites in orbit.

The first step in the implementation of Direct to Cell in Ukraine will be the exchange of text messages between Kyivstar subscribers – it will appear this fall.

Recall that Direct to Cell technology from Starlink allows Ukrainians with smartphones with 4G support to connect to satellites in the event of a signal loss of the ground tower. This will allow to stay in touch in hard -to -reach regions, in difficult weather conditions, during emergencies or failures in the network.

Kyivstar is the first Ukrainian operator to integrate satellite communication into his own telecom infrastructure. The operator’s network will be used to process, routing and managing user access.

There will be nothing for the subscribers-when the satellite communication will work, you will not need to update your smartphone, SIM card or perform any additional action. Kyivstar is also negotiating with leading smartphone manufacturers to update the software and make this technology accessible to as many users as possible with different phones.

“Testing such advanced technology is a breakthrough for Ukraine. Despite the war, destruction and daily challenges, we as a business do not stop. We invest, continue to work and prove that Ukrainian sustainability is not only about defense but also about development. It is an investment in safety and the future for us. Direct. conditions, ” – said Alexander Komarov.

In the future, the Direct to Cell, in addition to sending messages, will also allow you to transmit data and use popular messengers, such as Viber, Telegram or WhatsApp. Kyivstar also wants to launch a satellite call, but yet without specific terms.
