The Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia stated on September 17, which “did not receive from the Georgian side of official information” about the violation of a criminal case against two citizens of Ukraine, detained on charges of illegally imported into the country of explosive substance, hexogen. In a written response to the request of the Georgian service of Radio Liberty, the Embassy stated that it “permanent monitoring of information that is distributed in Georgian media” in connection with this case.

In addition, “the consular department staff resort to comprehensive measures to obtain from Georgian law enforcement agencies to meet with the mentioned citizens of Ukraine and to find out all the circumstances of their detention.”

The Embassy does not comment on additional questions about whether the Security Service of Ukraine on the detention of two citizens in Georgia is known.

The Georgian State Security Service states that the case of the import of hexogen to the country involved representatives of the Ukrainian special services.

Citizens of Ukraine, detained on charges of imported into Georgia of the explosive, were sent to previous imprisonment on September 12. The State Security Service stated that “along with other versions is investigating” whether there is a link between this case and the “election on October 4 and the announced plans of radical groups”.
