Kyiv Capitales plans to play in the Baltic League in Latvian Riga

Manager Kyiv Capitalz Anastasia Zimina told about the club’s plans for the 2025/26 season. She confirmed that the team plans to perform in the Optibet League (Open Latvia Championship).

She said this in an interview for the Latvian Hockey Federation.

Yes, in the 2025/2025 season we plan to play in the Baltic Championship, Optibet. I know that there are about 20,000 Ukrainians in Riga. We invite them all and wait for games. Of course, we will be glad to see the Latvians and every hockey fan, we would like to see the full arena in our games!

We are currently faced with various problems and solve the issue of implementing this project. We are grateful for the support and hospitality of the Latvians. We very much hope for the support of Latvian fans, because our team will also include Latvian players, “she said.

Simina added that she could not yet name coaches and players who will be on the team, but added that the project of Kiev Kepitales is long -term and with solid plans.

I cannot name the names of the coaches yet, too early. As for the training grounds – We are looking at the skating rinks, so far the best option would be the “inbox.lv” skating rink. We hope they will become our home next season.

We have a ten -year plan that includes the purpose of building our own home, a hockey arena. We also have women’s, men’s and children’s teams, and we want to create our own hockey school. Our goal is to develop players, and we expect at least a few of them to play in the NHL. We will teach, invest and strive to win ‘, – added the club manager.

She stated that the arrival in the Open Latvia Championship is due to the fact that this country has better infrastructure and tradition in this sport.

We call it a Ukrainian-European project. From the very beginning of the club’s existence, we emphasized that Ukrainian hockey is part of a European hockey, we belong to a European hockey family and should continue to develop in this direction.

First of all, it means to gain experience and competition at such a level is no secret that Latvia is a larger country than Ukraine, in terms of hockey development, so we want to learn and ensure that our hockey players get experience of playing abroad. At the same time, we want to keep our team as “Ukrainian” as possible, that is, we will have Ukrainian coaches, most players are likely to be Ukrainian.

We also want to attract those Ukrainianx talents that are now playing abroad. We see this project as a Mecca for Ukrainian players in Latvia, where they can develop, spend time together, perhaps to climb to the level of the national team, ” – summed up Ms. Anastasia.

Kyiv Kapitales was founded in 2023. In the first season, the team finished fourth in the Ukrainian Championship. Last year, the capital team reached the finals, where in seven matches she lost Kremenchuk.
