Kuleba: Save Ukraine Seeks International Support to Save Data on Stolen Ukrainian Children

“It is necessary to save information collected by Yale University. This data is the undeniable evidence of Putin’s military crimes ” – Kuleba”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org

Save Ukraine negotiates with European partners, including the United Kingdom and Canada, to continue working on data on Ukrainian children stolen by Russia, the founder of the organization Mykola Kuleb said.

According to him, it is necessary to preserve the information collected by Yale University, because it is a clear proof of war crimes. The US Department of Stolen Children was initiated by the US State Department, which funded the University’s research. The place of residence of children, including those whose parents were killed or arrested, was established, and the collected data were to be transferred to the European law enforcement officers and the International Criminal Court.

“It is necessary to save information collected by Yale University. If the process of its destruction has been started, it must be stopped. This data is the undeniable evidence of Putin’s military crimes, ”the post reads.

Earlier, a number of media reported that the Trump administration had stopped the US -funded initiative that documented likely Russian war crimes, including a confidential database on mass deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

The Washington Post wrote that this step made it impossible to transmit evidence to prosecutors, which conduct numerous criminal cases, including an indictment of the International Criminal Court against Russian President Vladimir Putin for “illegal movement” of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine. Thus, the researchers of the Laboratory of Humanitarian Studies of Yale University have lost access to a huge amount of information, including satellite images and biometric data that allows to track persons and the residence of 35,000 children from Ukraine.

In an exclusive interview, the Executive Director of the Laboratory of Humanitarian Studies of Yale University Nathaniel Raymond said Radio Liberty that this step was a “catastrophic blow” for efforts to document war crimes and holding the perpetrators responsible.

On March 20, the State Department of CSC denied that the data on the abducted Russian children had been destroyed.

“The data exists. They were not under the control of the State Department – they were governed by people who managed this structure, but we know who manages this data and site. We know for sure that the data exists, they have not been removed or disappeared. This is good news, ”said US State Department spokeswoman Temmy Bruce, commenting on publications that the database of stolen Ukrainian children could have been destroyed.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets suggested that Russia illegally exported about 150,000 children from Ukraine. The BP, Darya Gerasimchuk, calls the figure in “several hundred thousand children, that is, somewhere 200-300 thousand”.

As of February 26, Ukraine was able to return 1227 children from the territory of the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied lands, the first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska reported.

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in the Hague issued warrants for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the children’s Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Maria Lviv-Belova. They are suspected of committing war crimes – violent deportations and movement of the population, including children, from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
