On January 16, the administration of the US president announced the composition of the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip, the creation of which is provided for in Donald Trump’s plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The Peace Council, chaired by Trump himself, includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and others.
Subsequently, the Bloomberg agency, referring to the draft charter, learned that the Trump administration is asking countries that want to get a permanent seat on his Peace Council to contribute at least one billion dollars. According to the project, Trump will be the first chairman of the Council and will decide who to invite to membership. Decisions in the Council will be made by majority vote, but all of them will be subject to the chairman’s approval.
According to the document cited by the agency, each member state will hold office for no more than three years from the time the charter takes effect, with the possibility of renewal by the chairman, but the three-year term of membership will not apply to member states that contribute more than a billion dollars. The demand for such contributions was not officially announced.
On January 14, the United States announced the beginning of the second phase of the plan to end the war in Gaza, part of which is the creation of the Peace Council and the National Committee. The National Committee, which reports to the Peace Council, is supposed to govern Gaza until the Palestinian National Authority makes the necessary reforms to be ready to take over the territory on the Mediterranean coast.
