Kremlin Dismisses Zelensky’s Easter Truce Proposal as Vague

The Kremlin has responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks regarding a potential Easter truce, stating that his comments lack a clear proposal. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasized that Moscow seeks lasting peace rather than a temporary ceasefire.

Peskov conveyed that the Russian government did not perceive a definitive initiative in Zelensky’s statements. He remarked, “From the statements by Zelensky that we have read, we did not see a clearly formulated initiative regarding the ‘Easter truce.’ He, as always, spoke about readiness and willingness to agree to any truce. That is the essence of President Zelensky’s message.”

“We reiterate: Zelensky must take responsibility and make the appropriate decision for us to achieve peace, rather than just a truce,” Peskov added, warning that any delay in this decision could lead to greater costs later.

On March 30, during a press conference, Zelensky expressed Ukraine’s willingness to establish a truce with Russia during the Easter holidays. He also addressed concerns about the potential strengthening of Russian positions during such a ceasefire, stating, “In two or three days, they will not be able to strengthen their positions. We remember what they promised to achieve in three days and what they failed to do.”

The Kremlin has rejected President Zelensky's Easter truce suggestion, claiming it lacks clarity and emphasizing the need for a permanent peace agreement. Zelensky, in turn, expressed Ukraine's readiness for a ceasefire but raised concerns about Russia's potential military gains during such a period.
