“Is there a suspicion that will lose NABU and SAP independence? They do not obey me. NABU is not exactly subordinated. SAP due to changes, we are one system. The SAP, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On the Prosecutor’s Office”, as it was, remains in the status of the Department. And we will be one family. They will work in their criminal proceedings, we are in our own, ”the Prosecutor General said.
According to the legislative changes, the Prosecutor General can take any case from NABU and transfer to another law enforcement agency. In this context, Kravchenko mentioned the case of Viceremer, Minister of National Unity Alexei Chernyshov, who is suspected of abuse of office and receiving undue benefits in particularly large and third parties.
“Some journalists reported that the new Attorney General was assigned to take away Chernyshov. And I promise you in the eyes that after these changes Chernyshov I will not take away. As the investigation was (in NABU), so it will be, ”he said.

Kravchenko, answering the question of how appropriate it is to give the Prosecutor General’s right to sign suspicions of top officials whose cases are investigating the SAP, stated the “legal structure of the rule of law”.
“The President decided to submit my candidacy, the council voted and the council was elected by the people. If you do not support a deputy in the Council, we choose. It is the legal structure of the rule of law, ”the Prosecutor General said.
On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada supported the Law No. 12414, which, as it was reported, limits the independence of NABU and SAP. 263 MPs voted in favor. After that, NABU Chairman Semen Krivonos urged the President of Ukraine to veto the bill, since the independence of two institutions is “actually destroying”.
The decision of the Parliament was disconnected to the protests of hundreds of people in Kiev, Lviv, Dnipro and Odessa.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed Law No. 12414 and stated that NABU and SAP will work, but they should be “cleared of Russian influences”.

This happened after 70 searches conducted on July 21 by the SBU, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office against the Bureau staff. The SBU, among other things, reported the detention of NABU employee, who, according to the department, was spying for the Russian special service. He was presented with suspicion. Instead, NABU stated that information from the SBU management regarding the possible risks related to one of the employees of the Bureau was received in August 2023, but later informed the SBU that there was no evidence about this employee of the bureau.
NABU, which was created in 2015, is the central executive body with a special status, which is entrusted with the prevention, identification, termination, investigation and disclosure of corruption and other criminal offenses.
