“President Koshta sent President Zelensky an invitation to come to Brussels and take part in the meeting of the European Council this week. Currently, we expect that he will join the discussion via video link, and this has yet to be confirmed,” the interlocutor of “European Truth” reported.
He clarified that Zelenskyi will most likely not be present in person “due to logistical issues.”
“Our teams are in contact,” the European official added.
According to “Evropeyska Pravda”, the Ukrainian side is not in the mood for a visit to Brussels, including because of the lack of positive expectations from the summit.
As “Evropeyska Pravda” reported, at the meeting of the European Council on December 18-19, EU leaders must make a decision regarding the financing of Ukraine in 2026-27, in particular, regarding the use for this purpose of Russian assets frozen in Europe (mainly under the jurisdiction of Belgium). However, negotiations on the frozen assets have been delayed due to Belgium’s demand to provide it guarantees from EU countries in case the money has to be returned.
On December 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Uthe country expects to fully use 210 billion euros of frozen Russian assets in the EU for several years – in order to cover urgent financial needs.
Meanwhile, members of the European Parliament are preparing to vote on a proposal to provide Ukraine with a “reparation loan” at the plenary session in January 2026.
