As of the morning of Sunday, January 11, more than a thousand houses in the capital remain without heating after a massive Russian attack, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported.

“To others (houses – ed.) coolant supply was restored. Water supply, with which there were interruptions in some areas, was returned to all residents,” Klitschko said.

The mayor of the capital reminded that due to damage to the infrastructure after the last massive attack of the Russian Federation, there were 6 thousand high-rise buildings without heat supply. Klitschko clarified that restoration work is ongoing: utilities and energy workers work around the clock, but the situation with light in the capital remains “very difficult.”

“And the work of heating enterprises and water supply depends on electricity. In the coming days, severe frosts are not expected to recede. Therefore, the difficult situation in the capital will continue. Utility workers, all city services are doing everything to provide city residents with the necessary services,” Klitschko added.

Earlier, on January 10, the KMDA reported that an emergency power outage had been introduced in the capital: the work of the water supply, heat supply, and electric transport systems was stopped. At the moment, energy workers are carrying out restoration work.

On the night of January 9, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine. According to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the main target of which was Kyiv region. In Kyiv, as a result of the attack, four people died, 25 were injured, among the victims are doctors and rescuers. In the Kyiv region, the authorities reported the destruction and 5 victims.

The mayor of Kyiv reported that the Russian night attack was the most painful for the city’s critical infrastructure. Vitaliy Klitschko also addressed the residents of the capital and urged them to temporarily leave the city, where there are alternative sources of power and heat, if possible.

According to the Ministry of Energy, more than 500,000 consumers were cut off this morning in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. DTEK clarifies that 417,000 families remain without electricity in Kyiv – some of the residents of Desnyansky, Dniprovsky, Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv. Emergency blackouts have been introduced in the city.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the Russian military used 36 missiles and 242 unmanned aerial vehicles (about 150 of them – Shahedi) to attack Ukraine. In particular, the Armed Forces confirmed the use of a medium-range ballistic missile by the Russian Federation from the Kapustyn Yar range in the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that, as the military reported, 244 targets were neutralized by air defense, 18 missiles and 16 strike UAVs were hit at 19 locations.

In the morning, the Ministry of Defense of Russia admitted that it had used an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile to strike Lviv region, calling it a response to the alleged Ukrainian strike on the residence of Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region. Ukraine and its Western partners deny that such a strike took place, saying that Russia is thus trying to justify new attacks and delay peace talks.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga said that in response to the attack, Ukraine will initiate an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, as well as a response within the framework of the EU, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
