“The Moscow District Court arrested in absentia the journalist Ksenia Luchenko, who is accused of spreading “fakes” about the Russian army due to her publication about the rocket attack on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv in July 2024”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
As it became known during the meeting, the criminal case against Luchenko, who lives outside of Russia, was initiated due to a post on her Telegram channel “Orthodoxy and Zombies”, in which she wrote about a rocket attack on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv in July 2024. “The Russian Orthodox state celebrated the “Day of Family, Love and Loyalty” by hitting a children’s hospital in Kyiv with a rocket bomb,” Luchenko wrote.
The experts involved in the investigation believed that in the report the actions of the Russian armed forces “are characterized as violent, connected with the death of people, including minors, as well as with the destruction of civilian infrastructure.” According to the investigation, Luchenko’s statements are false, while the journalist was allegedly guided by “the motive of political hatred.” It became known about the initiation of a criminal case against the journalist at the end of September.
Ksenia Luchenko is a journalist who specializes in topics related to the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church. In May 2025, the Russian Ministry of Justice included Luchenko in the register of “foreign agents”.
During the rocket attack on Kyiv on July 8, 2024, the largest children’s hospital “Okhmatdyt” was hit, in particular. Two people died, more than 30 were injured. The Russian military claimed that the strike was aimed at military and industrial facilities.
