Italian Prime Minister George Maloney expressed the opinion that Europe needs to restore direct communication with the Kremlin in order to have weight in the negotiations regarding the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Details: Maloney agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron, who previously said that Europe should resume some form of direct dialogue with Russia.

“On this, I think Macron is right. I think it’s time for Europe to talk to Russia (regarding the end of the war. – ed.), otherwise our influence will be limited. But the question is who should do it. We should not act chaotically – otherwise we will play into Putin’s hands,” Maloney said.

She also stated that she considers it premature to talk about Russia’s possible return to the Group of Eight, from which it was expelled after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

We will remind: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called Europe “the main obstacle to peace.”
