In the southeast of Europe, not far from the village of Tsrnobuka in Northern Macedonia, archaeologists have made an discovery that can change the understanding of the history of ancient Macedonia.
IFLSCIENCE writes about it.
For a long time, this place was considered an ordinary military outpost, but recent studies have shown that there was probably a forgotten capital of the ancient kingdom, directly related to Alexander the Great.

The team from the National Institute and Museum of Northern Macedonia and the California State Polytechnic University in Humboldt found that a settlement that was previously considered insignificant is a large ancient city with at least 2.8 hectares. The remains of the theater and a textile workshop were found here, as well as a coin dated 325-323 BC. BC – the time of Alexander the Great.
Bronze axes and fragments of ceramics were also discovered, indicating even earlier settlement of the territory – in the Bronze Age, approximately between 3300 and 1200 BC. This suggests that the city could be founded long before the reign of the Macedonian kings, perhaps as the capital of Ancient Linkestis, a kingdom that existed in the Upper Macedonia.
According to Professor Nick Angeloff, the place could be a strategic point on trade routes towards Constantinople. He does not rule out that it was here that such figures as Octavian and Agrippa, who were heading in stocks could pass.
The discovery is monumental: it not only expands knowledge of ancient Macedonia, but also raises the question of the origin of key historical figures, including Alexander the Great’s grandmother – Eurydice I.
