The Russian authorities said that at the oil depot in Engels “open burning has been eliminated.” The fire at the Russian enterprise lasted for almost a week after the raid by Ukrainian drones.
“At the industrial enterprise in Engels at night, it was possible to eliminate open burning,” said Saratov Oblast Governor Romana Busargin in Telegram.
He said that employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescuers and other specialists are on site 24 hours a day and the work continues.
On January 8, Russian Telegram channels wrote about explosions and a fire in the area of the oil depot in the city of Engels, where the Engels-2 airfield is located. Governor Roman Busargin said that the wreckage of the UAV fell into an “industrial facility.”
Later, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Defense Forces attacked with drones the Krystal Oil Base, which supplied Engels-2 airfield with fuel. In particular, Tu-95MS bombers are stationed at this air base, which fire at civilian objects of Ukraine.
On January 10, Busargin declared that the fuel would burn out “in about two days.”
