Details: American military analysts believe that Ukraine carried out a successful combined strike against military facilities in the Russian rear on the night of November 19-20, using drones and long-range weapons provided by the West.
Geolocation footage released on November 20 shows the aftermath of a possible Storm Shadow strike near Marino, Kursk Oblast, according to ISW.
Several Russian military bloggers claimed that Ukrainian forces launched up to 12 Storm Shadow missiles over the Kursk region, “fragments of which fell in Maryino.”
The geographic reference of the video recordings of the attack suggests that the Ukrainian target could have been Baryatynskyi’s estate in Maryino, which, according to the Ukrainian publication Defense Express, housed the command post of Russian and North Korean forces operating in the Kursk region.
ISW is currently unable to confirm this claim, but Marino is approximately 30 km from the current Kursk Oblast salient, which would be an appropriate distance for the operational headquarters of troops advancing along the salient.”
We will remind:
- The Guardian and Bloomberg reported on November 20, citing anonymous sources, that Ukrainian forces had launched the first strikes on military targets on Russian territory using Storm Shadow missiles provided by Great Britain.

- Neither Russian nor Ukrainian forces have been able to conduct an optimized operational maneuver since the winter of 2022-2023 due to outdated doctrinal and resource constraints, but both sides are learning, innovating, and adapting their tactics on the battlefield, underscoring the dynamic nature of the current war.
- The USA and Germany announced additional military aid to Ukraine on November 20.
- Ukrainian government officials are investigating the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
- Ukrainian troops have recently recovered lost positions near Pokrovsk, and Russian troops have recently advanced near Kupiansk, Chasov Yar, Toretsk, Kurakhov, Vugledar and in the Kursk region.
- The lack of proper attitude of the Russian military command towards Russian soldiers and the continued use of “meat assaults” probably contributes to mass desertion.
