Literally ISW: On January 27, the European Union offered a package of assistance to Moldova and Transnistria to help overcome the gas crisis in a pro -Russian self -proclaimed republic in the context of efforts to reduce Russia’s ability to use Transnistria in its energy blackmail schemes. ”

Details: Package includes an emergency loan of three million cubic meters of gas for the Transnistrian region and a grant of 30 million euros (about $ 31.4 million) for Moldova for gas purchase – probably from the European market – from 1 to 10 February.

Moldova Prime Minister Dorin said that the EU will continue to support Chisinau and after February 10, so that the Transnistrian region could continue to produce electricity for Transnistria and Moldova.

The EU stated that it also considers the possibility of maintaining coal supplies from Ukraine to Transnistria, and that it supported the allocation of capacity for gas transportation from Bulgaria and Romania to Moldova. ”

“Isw continues to evaluate that it is possible to accept Transnistria from Moldova, Ukraine or EU and further supply of trace cheaper electricity to the rest of Moldova will undermine Russia’s efforts to use the energy crisis to enhance the economic dependence of Transnistria on Moscow, the location self -proclaimed republic, as well as for the use of the transition of Chisinau to European electricity at higher prices within the framework of anti -European narratives of Moscow. ”
