Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar hopes the United States will apply sanctions against the International Criminal Court over the arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Reuters writes.
Israel has announced its intention to challenge the ICC’s decision to prosecute Netanyahu and Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza conflict.
“I am inclined to believe that Washington will very soon adopt legislation against the ISS and all those who cooperate with it,” Saar said at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavsky.

The pre-trial chamber recognized that there are grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Galant “deliberately and knowingly deprived the civilian population of Gaza of items necessary for survival, including food, water, medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity.”
Members of the Israeli government have since accused the court in The Hague of anti-Semitism after issuing the arrest warrants. Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir said that the court “proved that he is thoroughly anti-Semitic.”
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the ICC warrants for the arrest of Israeli politicians are binding on the EU countries.
“This is not a political decision, it is a decision of an international court, and the decisions of the courts must be respected and implemented,” said the head of European diplomacy.
