Details: According to media reports, police officers and investigators from the Corruption Perceptions Office (CIO) and the National Office of Investigation (NOI) broke through the second bus barrier after scaling the first one using ladders.
Investigators confronted Yun’s supporters, lawmakers from the ruling conservative People’s Power Party and Yun’s lawyers outside the main gate of the presidential residence for more than two hours early Wednesday after a failed attempt to detain Yun earlier this month.
Local media reported that the investigators were involved in a “physical confrontation” with the security service. Police warned that any attempt to resist the execution of the warrant could result in arrest.
We will remind: South Korean authorities are reportedly preparing to make a second attempt to arrest impeached President Yun Suk-yeol. The head of the country ignored the call for questioning and barricaded himself in his villa.
Prehistory:
- South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol declared a state of emergency in the country on December 3. In a direct televised address to the nation, Yun said the measure was necessary to protect the country from “communist forces.” He did not name a specific threat from nuclear-armed North Korea and focused on his domestic political opponents.
- South Korea’s National Assembly voted on December 4 to demand President Yoon Seok-yeol lift martial law. After that, the president announced that martial law would be lifted in the country.
- The opposition Democratic Party of South Korea planned to accuse Yeol of treason and launch impeachment proceedings.
- In a December 7 address, South Korea’s president said he “sincerely regrets” having caused public concern by declaring martial law, promising not to do it again.
- According to the South Korean newspaper Yonhap, the court issued a warrant for the arrest of Yoon Seok-yeol, the president of South Korea, who was impeached.
