Users are less and less buying games for the Nintendo Switch console, expecting that its life cycle will soon be completed. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, dispelling the doubts of gadget owners, announced that the company’s next console will support games from the current Switch. It will also be possible to transfer a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription to the new console.

“At today’s corporate governance policy briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will also be available on the successor Nintendo Switch. More details on the Nintendo Switch successor, including its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date,” says Furukawa in a post on X.

NV Techno wrote that despite the fact that the Nintendo Switch has been on the market for more than a year, it continues to sell millions of copies. In the years 2022-2021, 23 million consoles were sold, in 2023 – 18. In the previous fiscal year, Nintendo showed sales at the level of 15 million units. At the same time, the company has been preparing for the release of a successor console for a long time. Little is known about the future device, in particular, the name is kept secret. In its financial results report for the year, Nintendo announced that it will release the next Switch console by April 2025.
