The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has reported a significant rise in fraudulent activities aimed at the families of Ukrainian soldiers. Scammers are offering to facilitate the inclusion of relatives in prisoner exchange lists for a fee.
According to the agency’s press service, these fraudsters contact the families of missing or imprisoned Ukrainians, posing as officials or employees of institutions located in Russia. They promise assistance in exchange for money, misleading families about their influence over the exchange process.
The Coordination Headquarters emphasized that all matters related to the search and release of individuals held captive by Russian forces are handled exclusively by authorized state bodies. They clarified that no intermediaries possess the ability to impact negotiations.
“Any offers of ‘paid assistance’ are unequivocally fraudulent. If you receive such a call, please report it immediately to the Coordination Headquarters and law enforcement agencies,” the statement added.
Previously, it was reported that scammers have begun to leverage artificial intelligence to manipulate the families of Ukrainian military personnel, creating fake images purportedly of captured defenders.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has issued a warning about a surge in scams targeting families of Ukrainian soldiers. Fraudsters are falsely claiming they can facilitate prisoner exchanges for a fee, misleading families and exploiting their vulnerabilities.
