In Warsaw, a “Chain of Unity” was formed for the Day of Unification of the UNR and ZUNR

Hundreds of Ukrainians formed a symbolic “Chain of Unity” around the monument to Kobzar, unfurled blue and yellow flags and sang “Chervona Kalina” and the national anthem of Ukraine, the correspondent of Ukrinform reports.

Speaking before the audience, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, emphasized that today our generation is changing history.

“Today we do not allow the enemy to go further into Europe. As more than 100 years ago, Polish troops together with Ukrainian allies held back the onslaught of Bolsheviks who were going to Europe, so now the Ukrainian army is holding back the onslaught of enemies who want to take over all of Europe,” the Ukrainian diplomat emphasized.

According to him, the unity that Ukrainians talk about on this day in Ukraine and beyond plays a key role today.

“This is the unity of generations, unity around our symbols… We are united by language, traditions, Shevchenko. On this day, we need to understand what unites us, how much we need to nurture this unity, regardless of how we look at the world, how we want our Ukraine to develop,” Bodnar emphasized.

Oleksandr Pustovy, a teacher of Ukrainian history in Warsaw, in turn reminded the agency that in January 1919, the UNR and ZUNR solemnly proclaimed the Act of Zluka, that the thousand-year-old will of the Ukrainian people for unity had finally come true.

“In the same way, we Ukrainians abroad show our unity, our connection with Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, and unity among ourselves. That’s why this action is extremely important to emphasize our Catholicism and our unity both in Ukraine and outside its borders,” Pustovy emphasized.

On January 22, Ukrainians celebrate the Day of Unity. The holiday was officially established in 1999, taking into account the great political and historical significance of the unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the People’s Republic of Ukraine for the formation of a unified and cathedral Ukrainian state.

The first celebration of the Cathedral took place on January 22, 1939 in Carpathian Ukraine (the city of Khust), at that time in the autonomous republic of Czechoslovakia. On this day, under blue and yellow flags, there was a manifestation of 30,000 local people who came to the capital of Carpathian Ukraine from all corners of the region to remember the events of 20 years ago.

The “living chain” organized by patriotic forces on January 21, 1990 on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Zluka, when millions of Ukrainians from Kyiv to Lviv joined hands, celebrated the Day of Unity, became a manifestation of the unity and will of the Ukrainian people for freedom.

We will remind, on the Day of the Unity of Ukraine, students of Ukrainian schools, Ukrainian diplomats and representatives of the community honored the memory of the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine at the Wolski Orthodox Cemetery in Warsaw.
