After that, the military official took the operator to the police department in Ternopil, where he was “held for four days without explanation,” ORF is said.
“We demand from the Ukrainian authorities the immediate release of ORF operator and explanation of the reasons for his arrest. The operator is 53 years old, he volunteered for the war in 2022 and was injured in battle for Ukraine,” the editorial council of the TV channel said.
They added that Ukraine wants to join the EU and “therefore is obliged to comply with European standards for personal security and freedom of the media.”
The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Embassy in Kiev took action immediately after arrest and appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to find out the circumstances.
“Austria insists on compliance with the rule of law. However, since it is a citizen of Ukraine, the possibility of supporting the embassy is very limited,” the Foreign Ministry added.
