“In 1932-1933, the communist totalitarian regime committed the crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Today, the Rashtists, as the heirs of the communist regime, are once again committing crimes against humanity and genocide on Ukrainian soil… Stalin in the 20th century and Putin in the 21st century resorted to genocide because other methods of subjugating the Ukrainian people did not work,” said Oleksiy Chernyshev, counselor-envoy of the Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey .
The diplomat emphasized that in the conditions of Russian aggression, the memory of the Holodomor is a factor in the social mobilization of Ukrainians and the world community against the actions of the aggressor.
Those present honored the memory of those who died during the Holodomor and as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine with a moment of silence, and also lit memorial candles.
“We bow our heads in memory of the victims of the Holodomor, but at the same time we raise our voices so that the world knows and never forgets this tragedy. Because only memory and unity can guarantee that something like this will never happen again,” said the head of the Ukrainian Union in Ankara, Iryna Ambarkyutyukoglu.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar diasporas, Ukrainian diplomats, and caring citizens of Turkey.
“We share the pain of the Holodomor and want to confirm once again that we will continue to stand by the heroic Ukrainian people who are fighting against the Russian aggressor. We also draw the attention of the Turkish and international public to the fact that we continue to follow the events and support the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian state as much as possible”, – said the head of the “Crimea” foundation Tundzher Kalkai.

In the 20th century, Ukrainians experienced three Holodomors: in 1921-1923, 1932-1933, and 1946-1947. The most extensive was the famine of 1932-1933 – it is called the genocide of the Ukrainian people, carried out by the Stalinist regime.
