“The analysis of the structure of the Russian S-70 Okhotnik UAV, which was shot down on October 5, 2024 near Kostyantynivka in Donetsk region, proved that the aggressor state used components manufactured by Western companies to create this weapon, despite the sanctions,” the GUR noted.
Relevant evidence is presented on the War&Sanctions portal.
In particular, microelectronics and other technological components manufactured by Analog Devices, Texas Instruments and Xilinx-AMD (USA), Infineon Technologies (Germany), STMicroelectronics (Switzerland) were found in Okhotnik.
GUR noted that Russia had four prototypes of the S-70 UAV. The cost of such a Russian “Hunter” is about 15 million dollars.
“The S-70 UAV is, among other things, a carrier of UMPB D-30 aerial bombs, which the Russians drop to destroy the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine,” the intelligence agency emphasized.
The S-70, developed by the Sukhoi company, has been in development for at least a decade, and was spotted testing at the Russian airbase in Akhtubinsk. A key feature of the S-70 is its reduced radar cross-section, which should make it “undetectable” during a deep strike, potentially able to penetrate enemy radars and air defense systems, British intelligence explained.
The S-70 Okhotnyk strike drone crashed near private residential buildings in Kostyantynivka on October 5. Witnesses shot a video showing an unidentified aircraft shooting down a drone with an air-to-air missile. Among the wreckage of this huge UAV, the researchers identified the remains of the UMPB D-30 SN air munition, which Russian troops use to attack peaceful towns in Donetsk region. At first, eyewitnesses thought that a Russian plane had fallen, because the drone is quite large.
