Details: The malfunction was discovered on Wednesday morning. The company noted that due to the redundant network structure, the damage does not affect Elisa’s services in either Finland or Estonia.

“The damage may have affected some customers who rent direct channel connections through this cable. We are in contact with these customers and are using other cables to restore their connections,” Elisa said.
The company added that preparations are already underway to fix the malfunction.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Finnish authorities reported that the ship is suspected of being damaged.
In particular, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, announced that the authorities had inspected a vessel suspected of damaging a cable in the Gulf of Finland.
Stubb added that Finland is closely monitoring the situation in close cooperation.
“Finland is ready for various challenges in the field of security and we will respond to them if necessary,” he emphasized.
We will remind you that in recent years there has been an incident in the Baltic Sea a series of suspicious incidents with damage to communication and power cables. The loudest cases were damage to the underwater gas pipeline Balticconnector and of the Estlink 2 power line in the Gulf of Finland.
After these incidents, a number of NATO countries launched Baltic Sentry missionwhich patrols the most important areas of the Baltic Sea to protect the underwater infrastructure.
