According to the Czech constitution, President Petr Pavel will accept the resignation of Fiala’s government, and the current ministers will be authorized to continue in their duties on an interim basis until a new government is appointed.
ANO leader Andrey Babish is negotiating on the formation of the next cabinet with the far-right SPD and “Automobilists” on behalf of the president. Fiala told reporters that on November 6 he would personally submit his resignation letter to the president.
Prehistory:
- On November 3, Babisha’s ANO, “Freedom and Direct Democracy” (SPD) and “Automobilists for themselves” signed a coalition agreement.
- After that, the new composition of the House of Representatives, elected in the elections on October 3-4, gathered in the Czech Republic for its first meeting.
- On November 5, the lower house of the Czech parliament, the Chamber of Deputies, elected Tomio Okamura, the leader of the right-wing populist party SPD, as the speaker, which should be part of the future government coalition.
