More than 112,000 people were allegedly evacuated from the border regions of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Russian ombudswoman Tetyana Moskalkova said in an interview with “Arguments and Facts” on October 14.

According to her, another 40,000 residents refused to evacuate or returned home.

Moskalkova also said that she had received more than a thousand appeals about missing people in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the governor of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Oleksiy Smirnov, said that after the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from Russian villages, 268 people were found there – 118 of them were wanted. In addition, some missing persons are found in Russian temporary accommodation centers, with relatives and simply in other settlements: residents lose their documents or do not report their whereabouts.

At the beginning of September, the Russian mass media claimed that more than 76,000 people were allegedly evacuated from the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

On August 6, Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in Russia’s Kursk region. The Armed Forces claim control over dozens of settlements, including the district center of Suja. The Russian authorities in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation have declared a federal state of emergency.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region “is still causing losses to the Russian army and the Russian state, their defense industry and economy.”

According to him, the main task of Ukraine is to “destroy as much of the Russian potential as possible and carry out a maximum counterattack” with the aim of creating a “buffer zone”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ukraine is not interested in taking territory in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, but wants to protect the lives of Ukrainians and protect itself from Russian attacks.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, as of August 20, the Ukrainian Armed Forces controlled more than 1,260 square kilometers of territory and 93 settlements in the Kursk region of Russia. After that, it was reported that some of them were returned by the Russian army.
