In the capital of the Czech Republic on January 19, several dozen Ukrainians gathered to unfurl a 30-meter flag on the Charles Bridge, the city’s oldest bridge and a tourist attraction, a Radio Liberty correspondent reports.

This is the annual “Chain of Unity” campaign for the Day of Unity, which is celebrated in Ukraine on January 22 – the day of the proclamation of the Act of Unity of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR).

The “Live Chain” took place in the center of Prague, according to the participants of the action, to draw the attention of the Czech Republic to the war in Ukraine and to show that Ukrainians are united.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, who commented to Radio Liberty that it is important to hold such events in order to support the spirit of unity among Ukrainians.

“It is very important that, regardless of where Ukrainians live, they unite among themselves,” he said.

The ambassador of Argentina to the Czech Republic, Claudio Javier Rosenzweig, also came to support the Ukrainians, who noted that it is very important for him to be at the rally.

“Argentina, our government, our president support the fight against the aggressor, and the fight for international law and the principle of territorial sovereignty of Ukraine,” he added.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic. During the action, Ukrainians – those who have been living in the Czech Republic for a long time and those who came here with the beginning of full-scale aggression – as well as Czechs chanted slogans in support of Ukraine and sang Ukrainian folk songs.

Every year, on January 22, on the day of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR), Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity. Officially in Ukraine, the holiday was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Day of the Unity of Ukraine” dated January 21, 1999.
