Columnist and journalist of the Polish publication Onet, Witold Yuraš, citing sources, claims that the Polish delegation was surprised by the communication style of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi at the negotiations in Kyiv last week.

Details: During the negotiations of the Polish delegation led by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski, Zelensky allegedly accused Poland of insufficient support in the EU accession negotiations.

Also, the Ukrainian president seemed to express indignation that Poland does not provide enough military equipment because it “does not want to do it” (quote from the material), and does not shoot down Russian missiles and drones while they are in the airspace of Ukraine.

Zelensky allegedly was not convinced by Sikorskyi’s arguments that Poland will not deploy its air defense system without coordination with NATO, writes Witold Yuras.

The dispute between the Poles and the President of Ukraine also arose over the issue of Volyn. Zelenskyi, according to the column, allegedly said that Warsaw uses this topic because of domestic politics. Sikorskyi’s argument that Ukraine should treat exhumations and burials as a Christian gesture allegedly did not convince Zelenskyi.

“According to the testimony of the participants of the conversation, which Onet managed to get, the atmosphere at one point was so bad that it was even possible to talk about a scandal,” Yuras said. He notes that at that time there was also a Lithuanian delegation led by the head of the Foreign Ministry, Gabrielus Landsbergis, who “did not try to support the Polish minister.”

Ukrainian officials with whom Onet spoke tried to present the conversation as if the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry was to blame for the tense atmosphere, the columnist says.

“The course of the meeting between the head of Polish diplomacy and the Ukrainian president shows that, unfortunately, Warsaw’s relations with Kyiv are in a state of crisis. The Polish participants of the meeting looked, to put it mildly, surprised by the style in which President Zelenskyi conducted the conversation”, – states in Yuras’s column.

He also notes that several Polish members of the delegation that was in Kyiv tried to convince him not to publish the column because “Polish-Ukrainian tensions should not be discussed publicly.”

We will remind:

  • “EvroPravda” recently spoke with Ukrainian and Polish historians about problems in bilateral relations between Kyiv and Warsaw and ways to solve them.
