A Ukrainian, suspected of involvement in underwater explosions, which damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines between Russia and Germany in 2022, was arrested in Poland, said AR AV agency representative of the district prosecutor’s office in Warsaw.

Vladimir Z. was detained by police in Prushkov, in Central Poland, reports the Polish radio station RMF FM, which was the first to declare his detention. It was transferred to the district prosecutor’s office in Warsaw. The man was detained on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the German authorities.

The lawyer of the detained Timoteusz Paprotsky stated that the protection of Vladimir Z. would fight against the transfer of Germany, arguing that the implementation of the European warrant on his arrest is unacceptable, given the war of Russia in Ukraine, Reuters reports.

The arrest, which was announced on Tuesday, is the second arrest of a citizen of Ukraine after arrest in Italy last month in connection with an explosion on the gas pipeline.

The explosive device worked on September 26, 2022. As a result of the explosions, both gas pipelines were seriously damaged – three threads of four were destroyed.

The gas pipeline was built to supply Russian gas to Western Europe. The line is not recoverable. Investigations of Sweden, Denmark and Germany have shown that gas pipelines have been undermined, but the perpetrators were still being installed.

Russia does not take part in investigation. Moscow was responsible for what happened in the United States and their allies. They deny their involvement.

Numerous Western media wrote that explosions were organized by people associated with Ukrainian special services. Kyiv denies the accusation of sabotage.

The German Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that it was a serious attack on Germany’s energy infrastructure – regardless of the political motives of those who made undermined.

The Nord Stream gas pipelines came under EU sanctions this year, as EU countries have recognized them with a potential tool for Moscow’s pressure on Europe.
