Police used tear gas and rubber balls. During the riots, 19 protesters were killed and more than 100 were injured.

On Tuesday, the protests did not subside, which made the premiere resign. Two of his colleagues in the Cabinet of Ministers late on Monday, resigned, saying that they did not want to continue working for moral reasons.

“Given the unfavorable situation in the country, I resign from today to help solve the problem and help solve it politically in accordance with the Constitution,” Ollie said in his resignation letter in the name of President Ramchandra Paudel.

Paudel’s assistant told reporters that the resignation was adopted and the President began “the process and discussion of a new leader’s candidacy.”

The protesters, meanwhile, entered the Parliament building, while smoke was rising from some parts of the building.

Last week, Oli government launched a ban on social networks by blocking access to several online platforms after saying that these platforms could not register with the government.

This decision caused a wave of protests in the country. This is the fact that the young Nepalese posted on social networks of posts about the “luxurious lives of families and children of corrupt politicians and civil servants”, and the government closed access to social networks in response.

The protest organizers called them “demonstrations of the Z generation”, caused by the disappointment of young people because of the government’s inaction in the fight against corruption and expanding economic opportunities.

Critics have stated that it was an attempt to suppress freedom of speech, but the government denied these accusations, referring, among other things, to abuse social networks to spread misinformation and fraud.

After the resignation, Ollie never responded directly to the complaints of protesters for corruption.

Prehistory:

  • Protesters set fire to tires on some roads, threw stones in police in special means and pursued them with narrow streets.
Witnesses also said that protesters set fire to the homes of some politicians in Kathmandu, and local media reported that some ministers had been taken to a safe place by military helicopters.
  • The Ollie’s assistant reported that the Prime Minister’s private residence was also set on fire. Witnesses say that the Singha Durbar area, where the Prime Minister’s office and other ministries, as well as the Parliament building is located, was set on fire.
  • The Nepal Civil Aviation Office reported that the Catmanu Airport was closed because the smoke from the fires diluted by protesters could threaten the safety of aircraft.
