According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the victim was a 37-year-old resident of the city, who is believed to be a US citizen. The man was a legal gun owner and had no criminal record.

The video, which was shared on social media and broadcast on cable news channels, shows people wearing masks and tactical vests struggling with the man on a snow-covered street before gunshots are heard. In the video, the man falls to the ground, and several more shots are heard.

Later, video from the area shows immigration agents firing tear gas at a growing crowd of onlookers.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called for an immediate end to the Donald Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations in the state.

“How many more residents, how many more Americans must die or be seriously injured for this operation to be stopped?” Frey said at a press conference.

The state’s governor and two U.S. senators also called on federal agents to leave the state.

Trump was briefed on the shooting, a White House official told Reuters.

The shooting came a day after more than 10,000 people took to the streets to protest the presence of 3,000 federal agents Trump had sent to the state.

Residents were outraged by several incidents, including the killing of US citizen Renee Hood, the detention of a US citizen who was taken out of his home in his underwear, and the detention of children, including a 5-year-old boy.

Vice President J.D. Vance visited Minneapolis on Thursday to show support for immigration officials and ask local leaders and activists to ease tensions, saying U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has an important mission to apprehend immigration violators.
