The Security Service of Ukraine detained the head of a regional branch of a well-known party, who, according to law enforcement officers, demanded a $1 million bribe from a businessman.
As reported by the SBU press service on Wednesday, December 25, at the KMDA “liquidated a large-scale criminal scheme”, the office premises of the administration are being searched.
The case file states that the detained politician promised a bribe “to solve the land issue” of a businessman from KMDA — in the relevant commission and at meetings of the city council. He promised that the entrepreneur will receive a plot of land in the recreational part of the capital next to the Dnipro River, which is on the balance sheet of the community. The Prosecutor General’s Office specified that it is a boat station in the coastal zone in Natalka Park.
According to the investigation, before that the businessman tried to get permission officially, but he was refused, referring to “artificially created bureaucratic obstacles”. Later, the entrepreneur was approached by a politician who called himself a lawyer and offered him to lease the plot for 25 years in exchange for a $1 million bribe.
The politician was detained while receiving 900 thousand dollars “an advance,” said the SBU. He was informed of the suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud on a particularly large scale or by an organized group), the sanction of the article provides up to 12 years of imprisonment.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved, the law enforcement officers are asking for an arrest with an alternative bail of 38 million hryvnias.

Volodymyr Bondarenko, deputy head of the UDAR party and mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klychka, wrote on Facebook the day before that “promises” to transfer the land in the Natalka park is a fraud, because previously the plot with an area of 16.4 hectares was transferred to the park zone by the decision of the Kyiv City Council, and it is impossible to use it differently, rent it out or sell it.
