In Kyiv, the building of the Qatari embassy was damaged as a result of a nighttime Russian strike, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“In addition to our usual civilian infrastructure and energy facilities, the Qatari embassy building was damaged by a Russian drone last night. The country that is doing so much to mediate with Russia to release prisoners of war and civilians held in Russian prisons,” the president said.

He condemned the Russian attack, as a result of which four people were killed in Kyiv, 25 others were injured, and 20 residential buildings were damaged.

“The attack is just when there is a significant cooling. It is against the ordinary life of ordinary people… A clear reaction of the world is needed. First of all, the United States, which Russia really pays attention to. Russia must receive signals that it is its duty to focus on diplomacy, and feel the consequences every time it turns its focus back to killing and destroying infrastructure. Also, today’s strike reminds all our partners as loud as possible that air defense support for Ukraine is a constant priority. You can’t lose a single day in delivery, in production, in arrangements,” he added.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, commenting on the damage to the building of the Qatari diplomatic mission, emphasized that the Russian strike is a gross violation of the Vienna Convention and a reminder that “Russian brutality knows no bounds.”

“We are ready to provide all necessary assistance to our Qatari colleagues. We call on the Persian Gulf states to respond through diplomatic channels and publicly to Russia’s irresponsible and dangerous actions,” he wrote on the X social network.

Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko reported that 40 objects were damaged in Kyiv as a result of a Russian attack on the night of January 9, 20 of which are residential buildings. The city prosecutor’s office added that, in particular, the building of one of the embassies was damaged, windows in a kindergarten were broken, a tram depot was damaged, an unfinished high-rise building, cars, a supermarket, and a gas station were damaged.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that, in total, the Russian military used 36 missiles and 242 unmanned aerial vehicles (about 150 of them – Shahedi) for the strike, the main target of which was Kyiv region. In particular, the Armed Forces confirmed the use of a medium-range ballistic missile by the Russian Federation from the Kapustyn Yar range in the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that, as the military reported, 244 targets were neutralized by air defense, 18 missiles and 16 strike UAVs were hit at 19 locations.

In the morning, the Ministry of Defense of Russia admitted that it had used an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile to strike Lviv region, calling it a response to the alleged Ukrainian strike on the residence of Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region. Ukraine and its Western partners deny that such a strike took place, saying that Russia is thus trying to justify new attacks and delay peace talks.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga said that in response to the attack, Ukraine will initiate an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, as well as a response within the framework of the EU, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.

In Kyiv, as a result of the attack, four people died, 25 were injured, among the victims are doctors and rescuers. There are also interruptions in water supply and heating in the city. In the Kyiv region, the authorities reported the destruction and 5 victims.
