The list of countries whose citizens will be given this opportunity will be limited. Some ask, “So, will the Russians be possible?” Obviously not. First of all, it is about the countries of the European Union, the countries of G7, NATO countries. And I would like to point out that the turn of Ukrainian citizenship is not worth it today, ”said Alexei Chernyshov.
According to Viceremier-Minister, foreigners who now defend Ukraine, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora and those who already have the citizenship of other states, will be able to exercise this right.
“There are people who have already received citizenship of European or non -European countries. Many of them have not yet abandoned the Ukrainian passport. We want those who want to preserve Ukrainian citizenship can do it officially. For example, be a citizen of Belgium and Ukraine at the same time. The second category of Ukrainians, these are those who come into the citizenship of other European countries this year. There are not enough of them. They can also officially and legitimately save Ukrainian passports, ”Chernyshov added.

According to the current legislation, Ukraine does not recognize other citizenship of its citizens. In fact, many Ukrainians who are currently abroad have already received or plan to obtain citizenship of residence in the future.
At the end of last year, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the first reading a bill on the introduction of multiple citizenship. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, adopted as a basis for the Bill No. 11469, submitted as a basis for consideration in August 2024.
The document provides for the citizens of Ukraine to have several passports of different countries and outlines the conditions of multiple citizenship.
Foreign citizenship is expected to be acquired with the preservation of the Ukrainian. Foreign citizens will receive the right to the Ukrainian passport, according to the bill.
