The use of drones for spying on objects, particularly military ones, is growing noticeably in Germany and is probably part of the Russian hybrid war, reports Bild with reference to a representative of the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to him, only in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2024, the police received about 100 statements on this topic.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of this region, in 2024, about 30 cases of “observations of drones in the vicinity of American facilities” were registered.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs criticized the federal government for inaction.
“To protect the airspace from espionage and sabotage, the federal authorities urgently need appropriate equipment for the early detection and fight against drones,” they said.
Insiders say that none of these drones have been intercepted or shot down. They describe drones as “devices the size of a car.” The radius of action of such drones can exceed 188 kilometers, so it is assumed that their take-offs and landings take place outside Germany.
Germany’s Interior Ministry claims it has “clear evidence of the presence of large unmanned aerial vehicles.”
It is noted that reconnaissance flights of drones over airports and military facilities of the Bundeswehr and the American armed forces in Germany pose a particular threat. Among such facilities are the US bases in Ramstein and Spangdahlem.
Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior said there was no “national data on the drone problem for the year 2024” yet.
