A new board was opened in 2024 at the place of the vandalized one. According to the head of the Society of Political Prisoners and Repressed Ivan Dremlyuga, the money for the memorial was raised by the public. The plaque has a slightly different design than the one broken by vandals, in particular, it contains a portrait of Vyacheslav Chornovol.
The event was timed to the Day of the Ukrainian political prisoner.
“The board is at a symbolic place in Dnipro-Sycheslav, where Chornovola Boulevard and the recently renamed Chornovola Street converge. The place is significant, and I would like to. So that people would gather here not only for birthdays or death days, but also for the authorities to come to honor the dates related to Independence,” Dremlyuga said.
The participants of the event together sang the national anthem of Ukraine. The plaque was consecrated by the priest of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) Dmytro Povorotny.
Later, Ivan Dremlyuga noted, “a bust or a memorial ensemble in memory of Chornovol can be installed at this place.”
Activists are also initiating the installation of a memorial plaque to Chornovil on the building of the current regional philharmonic hall, where the House of Culture of Railwaymen used to be located, where “movers” gathered and where Vyacheslav Chornovil visited personally.
Earlier, at the end of 2024, in Dnipro, unknown vandals smashed a plaque commemorating Vyacheslav Chornovola on the boulevard named after him. The fact was discovered by a small group of activists when they came to the place to commemorate Chornovol. The board has been standing since the early 2000s. They did not contact the police.
