On Monday, 22 people were stuck in the air for more than two hours at the Sol Spin ride at Knott’s Berry Farm in California due to a technical malfunction.
Park mechanics managed to lower the ride to the ground and evacuate the passengers without serious injuries. However, some of them left the scene in wheelchairs, while others limped. Two female visitors were hospitalized for additional examination “for safety reasons”, although their health status was not immediately clarified.
According to Knott’s Berry Farm, around 2:00 p.m., the Sol Spin ride experienced technical problems that stopped it in the middle of a loop. The evacuation of the guests ended at 16:30, after the mechanics, using a crane, were able to lower the attraction to the ground. At the time of the stop, it was in a horizontal position, and none of the passengers were hanging upside down.
The reasons for the malfunction have not yet been reported. The Sol Spin attraction, located in the Fiesta Village area of the park, is a high-speed amusement carousel that rotates in three directions at once.
