“Important repair work on the key reserve power transmission line Ferosplavna-1, 330 kV, connecting the ZNPP to the power grid, has begun as part of another cease-fire reached through the mediation of the IAEA,” the message says.
Repair work is being carried out by a Ukrainian team, and the IAEA team is monitoring the progress of the work on site, the agency added.
On January 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency announced the agreement of Ukraine and Russia to implement a local ceasefire, which will allow repairs to begin, noting that Ukrainian technicians will begin repair work on the 330 kV line, damaged and disconnected as a result of military operations on January 2, in the coming days.
The IAEA noted that the outage left Europe’s largest nuclear power plant dependent on a single functioning 750 kV transmission line.

Six reactors of the Zaporizhzhya NPP have been in cold shutdown since 2022. The IAEA is constantly present at the facility to monitor security during shelling.
Russian forces seized Europe’s largest nuclear power plant with six reactors in the first weeks of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The plant does not produce electricity, but each side regularly accuses the other of hostilities that threaten nuclear safety.
