A footnote to the statement noted that it was supported by Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
At the same time, Hungary is not in the list of states. In this way, Budapest thwarted the approval of the common position of the European Union regarding the actions of the United States in Venezuela.
So far, no official explanations have been received from Hungary regarding non-support of the EU’s position.
What happened before:
- On the night of January 3, the United States carried out a series of strikes on Venezuela. Shortly thereafter, the US military captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York, where Maduro is set to stand trial.
- The EU reminded of the need to observe the principles of international law and called for restraint after the US launched a military operation against Venezuela.
