A new study has shown that even a little activity can significantly improve cognitive function

Daily physical activity, such as a short walk or playing with children, can improve cognitive health in the short term, while the effect is equivalent to reversing four years of cognitive aging. This is the main discovery that my colleagues and I made in a new study, the results of which are published in the journal Annals of Behavioral Medicine.

In preparation for the study of the relationship between diet and dementia risk, we asked 204 middle-aged adults to take control tests using a special smartphone app five times a day for nine days.

During each of these tests, participants were asked to answer several questions about their mood, diet, and whether they had engaged in any physical activity during the approximately three and a half hours preceding the survey. In addition, participants played several short games each time (each lasting about a minute) of intellectual games that allow to evaluate their cognitive functions, in particular the speed of thinking and short-term memory.
