Honda Motor has announced that it is reducing investment in electric vehicles due to a decrease in demand and focused on hybrids, releasing new models, Reuters writes.

At a press conference, the CEO of Tashihiro Mibe said that the carmaker reduced the planned investments in electrification and software by the 2030 financial year – from 10 trillions of yen to 7 trillions of yen ($ 48.4 billion).

For four years, since 2027, Honda plans to release 13 new generation hybrid models worldwide. This solution marks the strategic view of the company’s electrical direction against the background of changes in the market.

It is worth noting that Honda recently considered the possibility of merging with Nissan, one of Japan’s largest car production companies. However, the agreement has never been reached. According to WSJ, the main reason for the collapse of negotiations was Honda’s desire to make a Nissan a subsidiary, which caused dissatisfaction with Nissan management.
