“The main tool of the Kremlin is a special operation called Doppelganger. It is one of the largest and largest information campaigns of Russia, aimed at EU and NATO, ”the message reads.
According to GUR, within this operation, Russian special services create sites and pages on social networks, which in their filling and appearance imitate real Western media, and on such resources the Kremlin spreads misinformation under the guise of real news.
“In order to influence the Polish voters from March this year, Russian special services have spread false and manipulative reports, in particular on the social network X, with active involvement of Botoferm and artificial accounts that imitated real voters. The main messages used by the Kremlin are to criticize Ukraine’s support from Poland, calls for the state exit from the European Union and discrediting the policy of Donald Tusk. In parallel, the pro -Russian media form a negative image of Ukraine, calling it the main factor of “chaos” in Polish politics “, – they say in Gur.
In Poland, on May 18, the presidential elections are considered decisive for Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his pro-European government, seeking to promote their reform program. It is believed that these elections will be a battle between Tusk’s “Civic Platform” and the Law and Justice Party, which supported the current President Andrzej Dudu.
Researchers say that in recent years Russia has modernized its approaches to information war and instead of obvious propaganda, which dominated in the first years of aggression against Ukraine, the Kremlin has increasingly used tools masked by legitimate sources of information or under “alternative” content. According to the researchers, one of the tools was the creation of a wide network of fake media, in particular under the brand “Pravda”, and the use of Tiktok as a platform for spreading misinformation among young people.
