In the notification of the prosecutor’s office, which was also received by the RFE/RL correspondent, it is said that three Russians are accused of cooperation with a foreign special service. The agency mentions only their names and the first letters of their surnames – Dieter S., Alexander Y. and Alex D. One of the defendants, Dieter S., is also charged with espionage for the purpose of sabotage, preparation of an explosion followed by arson, as well as readiness for dangerous interference in railway traffic and filming of military facilities.
According to the indictment, Dieter S. since 2014, he fought against Ukraine as part of the Russian-backed DNR group, where he met an agent of the Russian special service. Since 2023, Dieter S. constantly exchanged plans with him for possible sabotage in Germany “with the aim of undermining military support for Ukraine.” He also expressed readiness to carry out explosions and arson at military facilities and industrial enterprises in Germany. He also expressed his consent to carry out sabotage on the railway, which was used by echelons with military aid to Ukraine. To prepare these diversions, Dieter S. collected information about potential attack targets. Among them were military facilities of the US armed forces, a transport railway hub and a machine tool company.
Alexander J. and Alex D. allegedly began assisting him no later than March 2024. Some objects, such as military aid trains, Dieter S. took photos and videos. He passed the information on to his contact person from the Russian special service.
Dieter S. was arrested on April 17, 2024, since then he has been in the pre-trial detention center. His accomplices are at large. On October 18, the federal prosecutor’s office filed charges against Dieter S. in another case – due to his participation in the activities of the “DNR” group, which is considered a terrorist organization in Germany.
It is not yet known when the trial of the three defendants will take place.
