“Russia is systematically and purposefully attacking the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, turning winter into another weapon. Energy supply in Ukraine has long been a front. It will determine how difficult this winter will be for people. Our additional 100 million euros for the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine is a clear answer: we will not abandon the Ukrainian people. Protecting energy supply means protecting people – that’s the point,” said the head of the department, Kateryna Reiche.

Ukraine finances spare parts and equipment for damaged energy infrastructure through the Energy Support Fund.

The energy community, with the help of an external procurement agency, conducts transparent and competitive tenders for purchased goods and monitors the use of funds. Thus, Ukrainian energy companies receive emergency assistance for the repair of damaged energy infrastructure.

“In light of recent investigations by Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities, the KfW development bank will continue to strictly adhere to its compliance rules. This includes the requirement that good corporate governance by Ukrainian energy companies be a condition of BMWE’s participation in the UESF, as well as ongoing monitoring of compliance with this requirement,” the ministry said.

“Adherence to established standards of corporate governance, especially for state-owned enterprises, is the basis for further reliable cooperation with our Ukrainian partners,” they added.

The day before, it became known that Great Britain will provide an additional 10 million pounds for the restoration of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure destroyed by Russia’s attacks.

Sweden is also planning hand over the winter aid package to Ukraine for 100 million euros.
